Campaign to remind homeowners to use qualified plumbers
A campaign during winter by the Association of Plumbing and Heating Contractors took place to remind homeowners to always use experienced and qualified heating and plumbing engineers.
The campaign happened during winter as this is when people tend to use it the most which can lead to a high number of boiler breakdowns and thus, heating and plumbing engineers are on high demand.
Qualified Engineers
Advice given by the APHC regarding sourcing a qualified engineer includes to:
- Look for a member who is part of a trade association, and who will check that their qualifications and past work has checked out and has been verified to a high standard.
- Always check their credentials such as their Gas Safe membership, you can also look online and ring their company.
- Check beforehand how much you will be charged for a callout and their price rates regarding an ongoing job.
You can always ring them beforehand for your own peace of mind and to ensure they are who they say they are.
Rogue Traders
Chief Executive at APHC – John Thompson states, “We know how many people only search for a plumbing or heating engineer in a distressed situation, when they are desperate to get their heating and hot water working as quickly as possible. This can lead to rushed decisions and sadly, the opportunity for rogue traders to take advantage in an emergency situation. We have been advising the public to make preparations to have contact details of reputable tradespeople at hand or have access to the right organisations to quickly search for a reputable trader”.
